I remember back when Jack didn't like big government. Those were the days.

As far as big govt is concerned.....one bad decision begets another.....we broke it we own it.   Huge unsecured debt has to get paid back somehow.

You're like a random post generator. There's no consistency of thought.

I dislike big govt, it causes more problems that require continuous solutions and rules to solve unintended consequences.  like teaching people to be unaccountable and modify their lives to get something for nothing...in return for votes.   We have to "unteach" that somehow.   If we kill  entitlements overnight there would be too much suffering.

In this era of government regulations the CCC in most cases would indeed be a bunch of workers getting paid to wait around while the bureaucracy shuffles papers and funding around to even get approval.  In the US big public projects take a decade or more to even get approval.  This is tremendously slow and inefficient compared to other western countries.  In this day and age you cant just give a worker a shovel or a hammer, etc... and tell them to repair this or build that.  This is why Obama's 'shovel ready' infrastructure money built very little of what was projected to be built.  Of the 175 billion dollars allocated to these 'shovel ready' projects, while unknown its been estimated that only about 30 billion was used for actual building.  There are calls from both sides of the political aisle, albeit not nearly enough from our political leaders to have a huge overhaul in our regulatory system with regard to large projects and in particular large public projects.  The things the CCC built back in the day.

By creating a giant government agency and taxing the hell out of the economy to redistribute wealth back to the employees? You do understand how government works don't you?

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

lol. You hate big government yet you want to resurrect a massive program enacted by FDR to make work. Why not the WPA while you're at it?

Enrollees would be paying us back...they would be lucky to make minimum wage.  You prefer paying folks for sitting on their asses?  What is your alternative?

At this point I could give a damn if someone pushes a broom down mainstreet and picks up trash. Yes govt inefficiency and incompetence gave us a system of giving shit away for free....it has to stop. How else would you propose teaching people to be accountable?

You don't like big government so you want a program that makes people totally dependent on the government for employment that competes with private business at the same time.

in addition to thinking that poor people don't work despite the fact that 80 percent of families receiving food stamps work.

It seems like you blame the system when the system fails you but you're lecturing, or at least condescendingly attempting to teach, poor people when the system fails them.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

It's time for jackrabbit to change his name to jackbooted.

A while back in an email exchange with a friend, I was talking about how Presidents have plenty of authority, but not much power. They cannot actually enforce much of what they decree. It is a good thing that enforcement agencies are not wholly controlled by an executive. But, some presidents, like Putin, or a "Chancellor" like Hitler, go and create their own means of enforcement. If we end up seeing Trump brown shirt brigades marching around then we will know for sure that the American Republic is no more.

I don't think we will see that, but I do think there is a decent amount of willing support for authoritarian practices. A Trump brown shirt brigade would not be without members.

Edit: Before the "but, Obama..." responses come - I know that populist authoritarians are not confined to the right. Now that character, tact, and reason are not required to be US President, I would not discount the re-incarnation of Hugo Chavez to stun and take over the Democrats. Fight fire with fire, and all that.
