MWC Tex
Well being that ESPN is only a portion of the TV contract, we are fine if ESPN isn't part of it in the next cycle. This will hurt the AAC and BYU more than anything since they are pretty much captive by ESPN. The other sports networks are not hurting that much. We could end up with NBCSN for $25 million/year and they'll still be golden. We might end up with BEiN as a secondary and cut ESPN out. With the MWDN starting to get some financial gain for the MW, we may be getting more games on the MWDN as more of a 2nd tier since more viewers are moving to the streaming and getting better games on the MWDN will increase that viewership. Compared to last year, this years viewership is up 44% for the fall sports (and that is not taking into account men's soccer games). So far for the winter sports there is a significant increase also (I'll be able to provide more details after the conference tourneys and gymnastics meets). There are more ads playing before and during the games that gives more revenue for the conference.
Fowl
Ratings for the NFL were down 10% this year. The NBA ratings are down 15%. Nascar is down 50% in the past 20 years. Part of the NFL and NBA is cord cutting I imagine, but the younger generation just isn't into watching sports as much as those who preceded them. Look at the ratings for those video game tournaments broadcast on tv and online. Same for drone racing etc. Kids today are watching youtube videos of some guy playing a video game - and the guy is making lots of money doing so. There will come a time in the future where sports might be played entirely by robots - it may not even be modern day sports but something entirely new and conjured up.
