TKM & Co. called to the carpet.

Fixing UNLV Athletics is simple.  I have been writing about it for 20 years on this board.  Very simple.

1. The president of UNLV must hire a search firm and conduct a PRIVATE search for the best Athletic Director that he can find in the country.  Someone with ties to the West  and with AD experience required.  All potential candidates should be kept private and only the search firm and president should ever speak with them.  The President should hire who he feels is the best fit for the job.  YOU DO NOT CONDUCT AN OPEN SEARCH WITH A COMMITTEE FORMED OF 20+ UNLV FACULTY AND STAFF.  All that does is scare off potential candidates who already have jobs and do not want their current school to know they are interviewing elsewhere.  If the President is incompetent to hire an Athletic Director himself, he should be fired.  A committee only gets you candidates that nobody else wants.  Committees are a disaster and will land you someone like Mike Hamrick or Jim Livengood (losers who are looking to escape jobs where they will be fired).

2.  Build an On-Campus Football Stadium for $250 million dollars.  UNLV already owns the land where it should be built (they paid $50 million for the land last year).  BUILD IT!!!  Sheldon Adelson Stadium.  Make it happen.  He will give you the money if you sell the dream to him properly.

3.  Once you have hired a competent Athletic Director, and have the new stadium under construction, you must go to all of the major players in Las Vegas and raise $25 million for a Football Coach.  You hire a big name proven FBS winner and sign him to a 5 year $15 million dollar deal.  That is $3 million a year for those of you who graduated in Clark County.  You use the remaining $10 million to hire the best assistant coaches that you can get.  With $2 million dollars extra a year for assistants, you will be able to hire much better people than leftovers who are fired from Nebraska.  HIRE A REAL COACH AND A REAL COACHING STAFF.  They may not be the best staff in the country for that amount of money, but they will be Top 25 quality and that is enough to build us a decent team finally.

4.  Raise $25 million for Basketball and do the exact same thing that you just did for Football.  Hire a real coach who is a proven winner and a big time coaching staff.

5.  If you can't or are unwillingly to do any of the first four things on the list, shut down UNLV Athletics because you are unwilling to do what is necessary to compete.  The community obviously doesn't want to have Collegiate Athletics at the highest level, so shut it down.  Putting out a product with Tony Sanchez and Marvin Menzies is a complete joke and it is unfair to them and the kids who play for them.  They are not prepared to coach at this level and they are in over their heads.  It is embarrassing to the school and the fans to put those inferior products on the field.

Do it right or shut it down.
