Uconn to BE

Recommended Posts

I thought football drove the bus?

It's a good move for schools outside the p5 to start throwing more attention at hoops, IMO. It gets more peanuts in the long run than also-ran bowls. The BE has a solid stockpile of tourney credits to dish out to members.

Wow.

UConn realizes that its basketball program is dying a slow death in the AAC, which is not nearly as good as the Big East.

I wonder of the AAC will allow UConn football to stay, or if UConn will join BYU and go Indy for football.  I'm thinking that UConn would have a fairly easy time scheduling games for football as an Indy.

SEPT - 4 games vs P5 schools

OCT -  4 games vs G5 and P5 schools

NOV - games vs fellow Indys Notre Dame, BYU and UMASS, and maybe FCS.

It's true to a point. I mean, we are just never going to get a big-time tv deal. It wouldn't matter is we put a team in the Access Bowl every year.

At least with getting teams into the tourney, they don't care what your market size is.

Rothstein reported it...back in November he also said WSU was about to join the AAC...you see how that's gone, lol

if UConn wants to go play football in the Patriot League...let em

invite WSU for Olympic sports and UMass all-sports.

you lose UConn hoops, but add WSU and UMass.

only critical teams IMHO are Cincy and Houston.

Does the MAC have an open spot? Would they take FB only?

I think ESPN wouldn't hesitate to give UConn an indy TV contract, for maybe 3 home games per year.

For the other 3 games, UConn could easily get a regional TV contract for the New York area with SNY, which they've done before.

that's why UConn is in the AAC in the first place...they were out playing hoops while BC took the ACC spot and Rutgers took their B10 spot...FOOTBALL drives the bus and always has.

Not everyone thinks Independent Status is a good thing. There is A LOT to be said for the stability of being in a Conference.

UConn would be in a conference, the conference it wants to be in:  The BIG EAST.

Only one sport would be Indy, football.  And like I said, UConn would have a fairly easy time scheduling, since it is on the East Coast.  There are a lot of AAC teams that wouldn't hesitate to schedule UConn.

Plus, ESPN will probably help UConn out.

If UConn goes Indy in football, that would mean the following Indy teams:

(1) Notre Dame (but has a 5 game scheduling deal with the AAC, and annual rivalries with Stanford, USC and Purdue)

(2) BYU

(3) UMass (joining the AAC?)

(4) UConn

(5) Army

(6) NM State

I like the idea of adding UConn as another November scheduling partner!

I agree...add UMass all-sports and WSU Olympic sports only and move on.

Problem is that UMass is a huge downgrade from UConn.

BYU has played both schools recently.  It wasn't even close.  UConn is a lot stronger.

UMass needs a lot of improvement to their football program:

Gotta wonder if SDSU will start flipping its skirt to ESPN as well.

SDSU fans are very pessimistic about the upcoming MWC TV Contract (ends in 2020), and insistent that they are underpaid and underappreciated in the MWC.
