Welcome back baseball fans!  We will be doing another season long rendition of the baseball thread, primarily centered around the MWC, although like last year, where we had a few TCU, UCSB, and Houston fans following along, we welcome those outside of conference, with the reminder that this will be the base board for the MWC, so please consider that before posting.

Let's layout the basics and ground rules:

-This is not a smack thread.  Perhaps some ribbing during a game, but trolling will be modified or posts deleted, and continue trolling will have you asked to no longer post in the thread.  Let's keep this one civil.

-The OP above will serve as the standings and weekly schedule, updated at the end of Sunday's games, hopefully. Please don't  be mad if there is a delay.  I also will throw one in the main body of the thread as a regular post.

-I will try to be diligent with the rankings, and will update when the new ones come out, and will list them for the opponents as well.  It will be in NCBWA/D1Baseball.com order  .

That's it for rules, I believe we will be just fine without much work on our parts.

Fresno left hander Ricky Tyler Thomas (#44) and New Mexico utility player Luis Gonzalez (#91) are the MW players ranked among the top-100 college draft prospects by Baseball America.  Others joining them:

TCU's Evan Skoug (#22)

Utah's Jayson Rose (#43)

UC Santa Barbara's Clay Fisher (#47) and Kyle Nelson (#67)

Air Force getting 2 games against the #3 LSU, and #33 Tulane.  Good luck down in Lil' Weezy-ana

Hope the Flyboys are ready for LSU.  Tigers are on a mission after Coastal Carolina knocked them out at home in last year's Supers.

For the Tony Gwynn Classic both SDSU and USD will be hosting UC Irvine, Tennessee, Oregon, Notre Dame and Seton Hall. I might attend a couple games.

UC Santa Barbara won this event last year and Arizona a couple games.  Both teams reached the College World Series.  We'll see if it happens again with this field.

Apparently they take baseball seriously in the SEC. Going to opening night Friday and then to the series with Miami next week. This is refreshing.

It'd be cool if Wyo had a baseball team but there will probably be a free Palestine before that happens.

Yeah, you are in the heart of college baseball country down there.  Jealous of that.  When I went to an LSU game I walked by their baseball stadium and it might be bigger than some minor league parks.

ETA: just looked for fun.  At 10,326, it would be the in the middle for biggest Triple-A  stadium

UF has like seating for 5500 or so. Not 10K but nothing to bitch about either, I suppose.

Nice place. Looking forward to it all.

Doesn't hurt how good Florida is at almost every sport, including baseball.  Should be a lot of fun when SCar, LSU and the MS schools head into there.

They did have one in the early 90s before shutting it down for cost reasons as they said that most of their games were played on the road because of weather and field conditions.

I wonder how the weather is going to affect the early season especially in California and Nevada? We may see a lot more postponed or cancelled games early in the season this year.

Our three home games with LMU was moved to their place because of forecasted storms.  It's now a Thurs-Sat-Sun series @ LMU.

Mark Reece on the difference between his time at Nevada and his time in Fresno:

"There's much more of a community driven atmosphere [at Fresno State]," said Reece. "The mood and the precedent that Fresno State has set – the expectation to win championships – is different here than from other colleges."

Some ESPN musings - Coastal Carolina is a long shot to repeat.  The ACC and SEC are poised for some postseason redemption.  The Big West is arguably a p5 conference.  And TCU and Cal State Fullerton are near-locks for Omaha.
