Early season recruiting rankings

Recommended Posts

At Scout, the left hand clearly doesn't know what the right hand is doing. They have us with just 6 recruits on that table yet if you click on the link, they have 14 names listed. Same for Rivals' table, which lists us with 8 commits but the local guy lists 13 commits. So none of these tables is very accurate.

NUMBERS theoretically mean something now but next to nothing when the final rankings are made after LOI signing day in February. Having followed this stuff for more than a dozen years, the most meaningful numbers are the 247 composite figures in February. Rank order the mean and median numbers for all schools in the conference and go from there. Even then, AFA and Wyoming shouldn't be compared with everybody else since those schools always shoot for a different type of player than the rest of us.

Also important is who else offered. Kids with P5 offers presumably have more potential with one caveat. In the vast majority of cases, a kid who decommits from a P5 school to a MWC might do so because he's decided to stick around home but more likely did so because he wasn't going to qualify for admission to the P5 school. The majority of those never qualify for their secondary MWC school either. One of SDSU's current listed recruits is Dionte Sykes, a WR who once committed to UCLA. Sykes decommitted to SDSU two years ago but never enrolled and attended a JC and has supposedly obtained his AA. Now Sykes is reportedly fully committed to SDSU and will enroll in the spring. Considering his history, even if he enrolls and comes out for spring camp, I won't consider him to be on the roster until I actually see him suit up next fall.

Boom goes the dynamite.

Update to the rankings as of December 8th ... expect @LoFasZz and @GoState99755 to go on and on about how CSU is blowing everyone's doors off.

When it comes to recruiting classes, it's really Boise State and then everyone else. Boise State has had the #1 recruiting class every single year since 2010... and the only reason that class wasn't #1 was because it only had 10 total players in the class. It was by far the highest average per recruit in the conference

247 has gotten increasingly lazy with the composite lately

247 started out great but went to shit.

Rivals has got much better out west. Scout filed for bankruptcy.

meh, they're all bad.  Jackson has managed to get second looks for some of fresno's recruits over at scout, and he's as dialed in as can be on the actual recruiting news, but they all suck in terms of actual evaluation.

DSG was a man among boys in one of the toughest divisions in Texas. He's meh in the MWC. He's just yoked out more than everyone.

honestly, projecting from HS to college is nearly as much of a crapshoot as college to nfl sometimes. Keyan williams had SEC schools that legitimately wanted him and he lost out for playing time to a bunch of randos with MWC offers.

On that basis, you must have had clearly the most talent in the conference in 2016 yet again failed to win it.

Just how great is Harsin again?

Or you can look at that all G5 all american list and see no Boise players.  Even though they were the highest rated for most of the season.  Solid coaching even though the recruiting rankings are bunk?

Or failure to develop/integrate all that talent he recruited?

247 list our starting and back-up QB's (Dru Brown/Cole Brownholtz) this year as commits for next year.

Scout is the best.

Just email Brandon Huffman with any verified commits and he will up-date your schools list with-in minutes.

Recruiting ranking outside the top 25 are kind of a joke. Sdsu recruits certain type of players, not necessarily the best, but guys that fit us.

I really don't care about stars.  I somewhat care about offers as that shows where your program is in the CFB hierarchy.
