24/7 sports.com 2017 recruiting

It is quite early but as yet we (MWC) are not doing so well. Neither is Utah, UConn, USF, Purdue or BYU.

It has been my experience that 24/7 can not predict the future any more than Rivals or any of the others. However their composit is generally the best ranking available. As I said it is early.

Nevada's killing it! We don't have a recruiting thread, but we've landed 3 3-star guys out of Texas over the past few days. Hopefully everyone sticks around, but Polian is doing a great job so far.

247 Average for Schools With Multiple Commits:

CSU 84.37

Boise 82.24

SDSU 82.11

UNR 79.63

UNLV 75.92

AFA 73.27 (means nothing for this school)

All six seem to be doing all right to this point. As to the others . . .

UNM: Given Bob Davie's propensity for not revealing his commits, nothing good or bad can be said.

Wyoming: Similar to AFA in the sense that how highly regarded Cowboys recruits are never seems to be correlated with how the team does down the road.

Hawaii: Just one commit with a composite rating of 76.67 for a JC transfer is no bueno but the staff is new so they need to be cut some slack.

Fresno: No slack cutting here; rather a slacker may be getting further exposed: DeRuyter (I'd guess potential recruits know he's a lame duck).

SJSU: Just one commitment and it's smoke and mirrors; the kid is Tony Gwynn's nephew and the chances of him attending SJSU are nil.

USU: WTF?

Boom goes the dynamite.

You mean all 3 of your commits, none of whom have P5 offers?  LOL.  Yeah you guys are killin' it.

I'll take top 100 guys from the state of Texas...and apparently so would CTD who loves Texas more than Cali.

Also, Mark Brown (Dline) was offered by TTU.

Only a CSU Fresno grad would think "seem to be doing all right" is synymous with "killing it." Also, all three commits are 3-star guys who could therefore get P5 offers prior to early February. Indeed, if McDonald can be believed, he's already been offered by Texas Tech.

Please let us know once DeWrongter gets a verbal from a kid with a P5 offer.

In all fairness Fresno has rarely had commitments early. So this doesn't bother me at all. As for him being a lame duck coach couldn't agree more.  I don't necessarily think that's hurting anything at this time.

It was, as you say, "implied".

Bobo had a good class this year at least on paper. All of 2015 class was guys who committed to McElwain and Bobo got them to stick. So far CSU has a couple guys with P5 offers.

Dru Brown for Hawaii is coming in for the 2016 season (arriving for Summer Session 2). He's not a 2017 recruit. Rolo wanted more competition at the QB spot heading into fall camp and went after Brown and Kyle Gallup (former Marshall QB) who is walking on. Rolo and the staff have been very active (around 100-200 total offers so far going out to players around the nation and Australia) during this time of the year unlike Chow who never was a fan of recruiting at this time.

For some reason, 247 never has anything on our commits.  I don't know if it's because we send them on missions or push forward or what.  We did get a commit from a kid that's got several P5 offers today.  QB from Florida.  We get a lot of players from Florida.  We do just fine with who we get, and if we don't have any freak car accidents this off season that take out a whole position group for the year, we'll be good to go.  We are usually very strong against the run, but last year, teams that could run the ball killed us because we had no D-line depth.

Bobo seems to be a heck of a recruiter.  I was really impressed with what he was able to do in his first year as a HC.  Good connections to areas CSU has never had access to before.  If he can coach, which time will tell, he could be the real deal.
