youngredbullfan
"The north part of the city" means a lot of different things to different people, but my answer would be the same regardless of which "north" part he'll be working in...I would direct them toward 89166, 89149, 89138, 89134, or the part of 89129 west of the 215 Beltway. These would be a reasonable commute east to what is the north. These areas are more affordable than the areas that are closer to the action (maybe less so with 89138). There are a lot of "gated communities" that aren't so wealthy, but in a lot of cases the gates are a false sense of security because unless they have staffed security they are extremely easy to get into. The down side of these areas is that they aren't close to the airport or other things that people associate with LV - they are strictly suburbs. Although there are numerous bars in LV playing live music on the weekends, they likely wouldn't be within ten miles of any of them. This is one of the top restaurant cities in the world, but if you're up in the northwest there is only one Indian and one Thai restaurant with 20 minutes. The "up" side of 89166 is that you're 20 minutes up Kyle Canyon road to the pine trees and great hiking trails that are ideal weather all summer - a Colorado-like escape. All of those areas are higher elevation than downtown so generally cooler. 89138 runs about 10 degrees cooler than downtown and gets early evening shade from the Spring Mountains. Red Rock Canyon is also a great getaway place for hiking (best from October to May), and is 15 minutes from 89138.I ride and I die for the 89014 On 12/1/2016 at 12:26 PM, WyomingCoog said: I own a vehicle likely worth more than everything you own combined and just flew first class (including a ticket for a 2 1/2 year old), round trip to Las Vegas and I'm not 35 yet. Please tell us about how Vegas is now based on living here 3 years in the 80s.Well, for one, I lived there for nearly twenty years. Rebels18
Another reason not to live in NE Vegas? They just had a 5.4 earthquake a few minutes ago. I didn't feel sh*t here in the SW.
Wyovanian
Please tell me more about the city. I desire to understand your vast knowledge, Norm Clarke! Ever eat at Poppa Gar's, Rosewood Grill, Fog City Diner, Port Tack, or Dickinson's Warf? Were you at the openings of the Mirage, Treasure Island, MGM Grand, Venetian, NYNY, Monte Carlo, GVR, Red Rock, Fiesta (both of 'em), Paris, City Center, Wynn, Bellagio... Is your face on the wall at the Palm? I'm guessing the answer to all of these questions is "no"...

toonkee
I fail to understand how attending the openings of things gives anyone any cred, unless it counts towards winning some kind of weirdo contest.

ph90702
I live in the Northwest part of town, Centennial area. Love it. Lots of space. Relatively cheap. Can get a lot of bang for your buck. Good schools too.100% agree.
tdmonkeys
I lived a few blocks south and east of Red Rock Casino for a few years and loved it because it was 15-20 minutes at most to pretty much anywhere I wanted to go(including the strip). Everything was convenient and safe and congestion was rarely an issue. The not really South Sumerlin on the map. That being said, this was right before that massive shopping center south of Red Rock opened so I have to imagine street traffic has increased ten fold in that area. The biggest thing you have to get used to in Las Vegas are the terrible, inconsiderate drivers. I was cut off more times and saw more people run red lights(in residential areas no less) than my whole life growing up in San Diego. Obviously, part of it is simply the large number of cars trying to force themselves through a never ending supply of traffic lights but you really do need to be a defensive driver all the time. Aslowhiteguy
People who can't figure out a simple roundabout shouldn't be driving. Its a freaking circle with 3 to 4 entrances /exits . God, I hate the drivers here who are too stupid to figure them out. The problem is there is always someone at the roundabout who doesn't know how they work. Some of whom seem to think if their entrance point is the busiest, they have the right of way, no matter who got there first. "Don't underestimate Joe Biden's ability to F@*k things up." I don't disagree. I just noticed it all the time. Probably also due to the sheer number of miserable people. And I say this as someone who actually loved living in Las Vegas.
