  1. I don't defend it, and most wouldn't. The hypocrisy drives me bananas. But don't pretend that you are not familiar with the impulse that drives people to justify such hypocrisy. After all, the impulse from the left to defend such behavior is not altogether different than whatever compels those on the right to explain away what happened on Jan. 6. Or you know, "legitimate political discourse." As much as I hate the blind partisanship, I'm just as tired of the finger wagging, too. It makes everyone a hypocrite. You know what? The left does defend hypocrisy and outright stupidity far too much. And the right defends unconscionable behavior — some that strikes at the foundations of what makes America America. People need to get their shit together.
  2. … but I’d still vote for him.
  3. The funny thing is Kinzinger and Cheney are pretty much on board with all of this, except the authoritarian state part. So for that, they're getting censured. Good times.
  4. What kind of fool would only cherry pick information that agrees with their predetermined point of view, and automatically dismiss anything that might challenge that point of view? You’re right. It’s really weird.
  5. Strange. My kid tested negative three times last week, once a PCR and twice an at-home test. I tested, too. Negative as well. No reason to believe those tests were wrong, but I would’ve bet anything she had it considering her symptoms. Your experience makes me wonder.
  6. He’s in good shape. Outdoorsy guy. I’ve never really thought that he could whip someone’s ass, though. But people are full of surprises.
  7. Lol. Being the PR whore I am, I have already pushed for them to send the video out to local media.
  8. Holy shit. My wife just got home because they closed the office, obviously, and just gave me the details. This is a referral patient who has never stepped foot in the office before. This guy comes in without a mask, and the front desk assistant informs him of the policy and that "if you don't have one, no problem. We can give you a surgical mask." He instantly starts to lose his shit, refusing to put on a mask and says, "this is a dental office and I don't have to wear a +++++ing mask." And "Where's the doctor? I can have you fired." Guy sits in waiting room steaming. Assistant goes to the periodontist, who is consultation with another patient. Periodontist comes out, informs the guy of the office protocols as he stands next to the office door. (This is where another assistant started videoing the incident) Guy starts in "I have a good insurance, and a pocket full of money. If you want my money I don't need to wear a +++++ing mask. I can just leave." Periodontist says, OK, opens the door and asks him to leave. Man grows even more irate. Stands up, approaches the front desk, which is fronted by plexiglass. Yells at the 60-something-year-old assistant that she's "just a bitch from California. Aren't you?" (Born and raised in Oregon, actually). Then hits the plexiglass full force, knocking it onto the assistant. Then he storms out the door, sucker punching the periodontist on the way out as he holds open the door. Guy gets in car. Assistant stops filming so she can take a pic of his license plate. That enrages man even more. He gets out and attacks the periodontist who is standing on sidewalk. Periodontist then beats the hell out of the guy. Guy gets up and drives off (not in handcuffs as I had originally thought). Cops come, and are now looking for him (if they haven't found him already). They have his plates, so he's not going to get away.
  9. Absolutely. I don't think anyone would have ever questioned such a requirement in an office like that two years ago. This is just crazy. I don't even have all the details yet, as my wife just called me shaken up. But the fact that they are worried about this guy coming back enrages me.
  10. No kidding. This is the first in my wife's office. I mean, we've heard of it happening at other places, just haven't seen it. I think the office is going to have to take similar precautions as you have after today's events.
  11. So, my wife just called me from her office. Apparently, the police are there because some POS decided to make a big deal about wearing a mask — as mandated in health care offices in the state of Oregon. (And even if it wasn't mandated by the state, it would be required by the office itself, which is an oral surgical office.) My wife was dealing with a patient, so she wasn't confronted. But the man threatened the front desk assistant, who is a wonderful woman (and going through enough right now as she tries to find a suitable facility for her husband, who has dementia). The periodontist came out, and the man assaulted him. The good news is that the periodontist ended up whipping the crap out of him, and the guy was taken away in handcuffs. The bad news is that they're all terrified that this redneck POS will be back. I don't know how deranged you'd have to be to go into a surgical office and get physical over masks, but these little ticking time bombs are everywhere. I don't understand this world anymore.
  12. We didn't, but I have heard the same. Just going to wait for PCR results right now.
  13. This is going on at my house right now. My daughter woke up yesterday with a sore throat and a cough, and still has symptoms now. She’s taken two at-home tests and both were negative. We’re still waiting for the results of the PCR test we took yesterday. I thought for sure she had it, but now I am not so sure. Those at-home tests aren't the most reliable things, so it's tough to know.
  14. Yep. I have no doubt that there was some hoarding, but I believe this was the primary cause of the shortages.
  15. Omicron finally gave the anti-vaxxers the version of Covid that they had deluded themselves into believing was the case from the beginning. The severity of Omicron really does seem to compare more closely to a more transmissible version of the flu than the killer of previous variants. And many of the public health measures the overly cautious are arguing for now are doing far more harm than good. Opinions are all so entrenched that they are incapable of accepting new information about this variant and make adjustments. What a wild world we live in.
  16. Yep. Oregon just put together its crisis care guidelines and the governor called up the National Guard to staff hospitals. And this is the state with the lowest case rate per capita in the lower 48, so it’s probably going to be worse in other places. Going to be a rough next month or two for services of all kinds across the country before we get to the other side of this.
  17. Sounds like you’re going to be OK. But I hope you feel better. My youth basketball team had their first week of practice last week. We have nine girls. Two missed the first week because of Covid. I’m not making it two weeks without getting it.
  18. Definitely. I agree. I am so tried of the misinformation from those pushing their agendas, when all I want is legitimate information. And we should hold the Supreme Court to a higher standard than, say, you and the false information you have spread since the beginning.
